Irritable Bowel Syndrome Treatment

Irritable Bowel Syndrome Treatment

Do you often have abdominal pain or discomfort, diarrhea or constipation, an urgency to go, Irritable Bowel Syndrome Treatmentand similar symptoms in your digestive tract? If so there’s a good chance you may have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Doing a self-diagnosis on WebMD or seeing a doctor who tells you that you have IBS doesn’t really help though, since there are no traditional ways to treat IBS. What if I told you that IBS can be easily fixed? You’d be thrilled, right? I have to warn you though, IBS treatment may involve dietary and lifestyle changes. But, if you can accomplish this, you make IBS a thing of the past!

We’ll be talking about some of the major causes of IBS and how you can naturally treat IBS.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome: An Autoimmune Disorder?

New research suggests that  IBS is an autoimmune disease. Autoimmune disorders can be caused by food sensitivities, microbial infections, heavy metals and other toxins in ones body. These toxins build up and ones body does what it should, it fights them with your immune system. If one is continually exposed to these toxins then your immune system will not be able to shut off, and in turn can run out of control. Many different things can contribute to an autoimmune disorder and we’ll be discussing some of the major contributors to inflammation especially associated with IBS.

 Lectins and Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Lectins are proteins that bind to cell membranes in the intestinal tract. Eating a meal with an abnormally high amount of lectins can cause symptoms similar to food poisoning. A lectin from the castor oil plant is used in the production of the biochemical weapon ricin. Many contribute moderate lectin intake to IBS and Leaky Gut formation. The main foods containing lectins are grains, beans and nuts.

For centuries people have soaked lectin-containing foods in water overnight to help decrease the amount of lectins they contain. Soaking, sprouting, or bacterial fermentation will greatly lectins and IBSreduce the amount of lectins in these foods, in addition to other potentially harmful anti-nutrients. There are mixed opinions on the efficacy of soaking/sprouting grains and soy, so some need to avoid these indefinitely.

For someone suffering from IBS simply soaking their foods containing lectins before eating will not typically resolve the issue; but once the IBS is cleared it can potentially help one start to eat them again without the same previous symptoms.

Food Allergies and Irritable Bowel Syndrome

In a previous blog on Nightshades we talked about how they not only trigger autoimmune conditions, but also contain lectins. Those with IBS need to be checked for Solanine Toxicity Syndrome to determine if tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, paprika, tobacco, peppers, and tomatillos could be to blame.

Research studies have shown approximately 50% of patients with IBS showed major improvement while undergoing an elimination diet. In this study the most common contributor was dairy, with a close second being grains. Many other foods have been shown to contribute to IBS including corn, eggs and any other pro-inflammatory foods.

Caffeine and Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Coffee and other caffeinated beverages are known to cause diarrhea and have also been linked to IBS. Caffeine is also pro-inflammatory on ones body and has been associated with autoimmune disorders. Chocolate, acai berries, green tea, black tea, and all other caffeine containing foods should be evaluated in those suffering from IBS.

Dysbiosis and Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Dysbiosis is when one has an imbalance of intestinal bacteria with too many “bad” bacteria and not enough of the “good” bacteria, which are beneficial and necessary for proper digestion. Studies have found dysbiosis present with certain bacteria 10-110x higher in patients suffering from IBS with constipation. Another study also showed dysbiosis with an increase in E. Coli and a decrease in bifidobacterium in those with diarrhea and IBS. Some studies say that at least 80% of IBS sufferers also have dysbiosis.

Treating Irritable Bowel Syndrome fast, effective, and all natural!

If you read WebMD it mentions many different foods that can contribute to IBS (some mentioned above, some not). While someone could avoid every food mentioned indefinitely, when most people hear that suggestion they get overwhelmed and won’t even try. If you have the dedication to avoid all the foods above, that’s great. You will notice an improvement in your IBS Girlhealth. But for most people who can’t/won’t avoid all of them that’s where the beauty of Applied Kinesiology (AK) comes in. Getting checked by an AK doctor can help you learn exactly which foods are causing you issues, allowing you to only avoid those foods that are necessary, giving you a more specific plan without the guesswork!

Getting checked for dysbiosis is also key to help restore normal intestinal flora. If your gut isn’t cleared of the bad microbes then it won’t heal properly, even on the strictest diets.

Probiotics can work for some people, but often something stronger is needed to kill the “bad” bacteria and allow the good ones to flourish. Morinda Supreme, Melia Supreme, and Golden Thread Supreme are 3 of the most common antimicrobials that I use, but getting checked for which of 10+ antimicrobials I recommend on a regular basis is the best way to make sure you are getting the most effective and efficient treatment in helping to rid you of IBS for good.
